They did it last year and they’re doing it again this year, PlayStation has opted not to show up at E3 yet again this year. This won’t come as a surprise to many as it has been rumored for a little while now by not one but many reputable sources.
GamesIndustry.biz made it official with an article on their site. They reached out to PlayStation for comment on the rumors of them skipping E3 and the spokesperson for Sony confirmed it to them saying the following.
GamesIndustry.biz
After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.
We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.
With the PlayStation 5 coming later this year, Sony will more than likely want to do their own thing and keep the announcement spotlight on them at that time and no one else. Another factor is the fact that E3 is dwindling year by year and the fact that hundreds of journalists private information was leaked last year doesn’t help either.
Whenever PlayStation reveals more info on the next generation, it will most definitely be at an event that focuses primarily on their brand alone.
