Holiday 2020 is approaching soon and with that, so is the PlayStation 5. We know what the console looks like but we don’t have other details such as pricing and a concrete release date. August was around the time when many people including myself thought we’d get additional information on all things PlayStation 5 and it seems like Sony is starting to do just that.
Earlier today in a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony revealed details on compatible peripherals & accessories for the PlayStation 5 by answering some FAQ which you can view below.
Which existing PlayStation 4 peripherals/accessories will work on PlayStation 5?
- Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PlayStation 5 games and supported PlayStation 4 games.
- The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PlayStation 5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PlayStation 5).
- The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PlayStation 4 games.
- Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PlayStation 5.
Will DualShock 4 work with PlayStation 5 games?
No, Sony believes that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of the DualSense wireless controller.
Is the PlayStation Camera for PlayStation 4 compatible with PlayStation 5?
Yes, PlayStation Camera will work with PS5 for playing supported PS VR games. It will require a PlayStation Camera adaptor that will be provided at no additional cost to PS VR users. More details on how to get the adaptor will be announced at a later date.
It’s also worth noting that Sony has stated that not all PlayStation officially licensed or third-party peripherals & accessories may work on PlayStation 5.
As was said earlier, this surely won’t be the last of the PlayStation 5 information we get this month so any updates for the PlayStation 5 released we’ll be sure to keep you updated on.
PlayStation 5 is set for release in Holiday 2020.
