Blizzcon in 2019 saw the reveal of two highly anticipated games in their respective franchises. Overwatch 2 & Diablo IV were officially revealed to the world a little over a year ago. Since then we’ve heard next to nothing on either title.
Blizzard hasn’t given a timeframe to expect either game to be released and it looks like that announcement isn’t coming anytime soon. In a recent earnings call, Activision Blizzard announced that Overwatch 2 & Diablo IV will NOT be launching this year.
Diablo IV not releasing this year isn’t surprising at all. Although many signs pointed to an Overwatch 2 release this year, it looks like Blizzard needs more time to work on the sequel to their first-person multiplayer shooter.
Just because neither title is launching this year doesn’t mean we won’t see anything from either game this year. Blizzcon 2021 is set in a couple of weeks on February 19-20 as an online-only event. That’s typically where Blizzard announces many of their future games and updates on current games, so it’s not guaranteed but it’s definitely likely we’ll see and learn something new then.
