There’s news you didn’t expect to see and news you don’t want to see, and today’s announcement from Blizzard is both of those. After nearly 20 years, Vice President of Blizzard Entertainment and Game Director of Overwatch, Jeff Kaplan has officially left the company.
This news came out of left field considering that Overwatch 2 is still in development and was confirmed to not be released in 2021. Overwatch 2 will now be lead by Aaron Keller, a veteran of Blizzard and a founding member of Overwatch.
Both Kaplan and Keller have released statements on the announcement, both of which you can read below.
Two main takeaways from both statements are that Overwatch 2 is still in development at a steady pace according to Keller. The other takeaway is that Jeff Kaplan hasn’t revealed his reasoning for his departure from Blizzard, but it’s safe to assume we’ll find out at some point.
