Housemarque has developed games in the past such as Resogun and Nex Machina, but the developer made its name known with its most recent title, Returnal. Besides the Demon’s Souls remake, Returnal was the first true exclusive for the PlayStation 5. Returnal was released to a mostly positive critical reception and was praised for its chaotic gameplay.
Housemarque has said that they’ve been in trouble in the past due to prior games not performing well. With the recent news, it looks like Housemarque no longer has to worry about that. Sony has officially announced that they’ve acquired Housemarque and have added them to their lineup at PlayStation Studios.
The news of the acquisition was confirmed in a PlayStation Blog post. The purchase of Housemarque is also a confirmation that Sony was pleased with the response to Returnal. While Housemarque’s next game is years away, it’s nice to know that they’ll have a stable footing for their next title.
