The big gaming acquisitions just don’t stop, except this time it’s not from Microsoft. A few weeks back, it was announced that Microsoft was acquiring Activision Blizzard for nearly $70 billion. This comes a little over a year after the purchase of Bethesda for $7.5 billion. Sony has made acquisitions on smaller scale in that time as well such as Housemarque & Bluepoint Games.
In a move that absolutely nobody called, Sony is acquiring Bungie for a reported $3.6 billion. Bungie is the developer and publisher of Destiny 2, which has been receiving content updates for years and even has one coming in a few weeks with The Witch Queen expansion.
According to an article from gamesindustry.biz, Bungie will be an independent subsidiary of SIE and will remain a multiplatform studio while staying creatively independent. The major acquisitions just don’t stop and who knows what either Sony or Microsoft has in the works next.
